The first version of AutoCAD, 2.0, was released in 1985. It was developed and marketed by the software company Autodesk, and is still the most widely used commercial CAD software application in the world. The application now runs on computers running Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, and is available as a desktop application, a mobile app, and a web app, as well as as an extended enterprise solution.
In 2016, the Office of National Statistics estimated that there were over a million licensed users of AutoCAD across Great Britain. Over the course of the next few years, the Software & Information Industry Association estimated that AutoCAD was used by over one million people in the United States, and almost two million people around the world, according to in-app usage data provided by Autodesk. The application has also been used in the defense industry, by airline companies, and by architects, engineers, and other professionals working in various fields.
AutoCAD is a desktop application that is used for 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) vector and raster graphics design. In addition, it allows for 2D drawing, drafting, annotations, and creating PDF reports. An update to AutoCAD 2016 introduced a new feature called Dynamic Input that allows users to insert shapes into the drawing or form based on an existing object. This enables users to design more easily and interactively.

History
AutoCAD was first released in December 1982 for the HP/X11 windowing system, running on an HP-3000 mainframe system at the Utah State University Engineering Center in Logan, Utah. Version 2.0 was released on January 24, 1985. The system used the C-Machine interface, which was written by David Chappell, who at the time worked for Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, California. Chappell and his team at HP-3000 developed this interface and produced the first version of AutoCAD.
HP was unable to develop a version of AutoCAD for the Apple II, and instead offered a version of the application for the Atari ST. This version was made available as shareware in 1985. AutoCAD version 2.1 was released for the Apple II, Atari, and Commodore 64 in October 1986.
Initial forays into the world of mobile and web applications were made in the 1990s, but it wasn’t until 2010 that the first
Subscription-based products are also available, such as the AutoCAD LiveLink add-on. Other products include Data Manager, AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD Specialty Drawings, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
History
AutoCAD was originally developed at the University of Utah by a team led by John Garberson, and began as an extension to the computer-aided design program SURFER. It was officially released on January 15, 1985. Its name was derived from AutoCAD 1.0, which was code-named “ACE” (“ACE was the name of the room the university IT staff used to meet during development”). It was based on a “premium” version of the UCSF Network Graphics package, with an emphasis on vector graphics.
Other functionality was added over time. The original UCSF version included several add-on products such as Bezier, Channel, UCSF CNC, Placement, Profile, and Self-Casting. Later versions included the ability to export native Raster Graphics Interchange Format (RGI) files. In 1987, an ObjectARX plugin for AutoCAD 2.0 was released to provide a framework for further product development.
The version of UCSF, the cornerstone for the development of AutoCAD, was moved from the UCSF release office to the Autodesk product office in 1987, which gave rise to the “Release” numbering and “Department of Defense” (DoD) designation. Development moved to the Oakland, California office in 1989, which is now known as “Autodesk Labs”.
AutoCAD “1.0” was released for DOS on January 15, 1985, and became a commercial product in 1987, with a graphical user interface. It had a number of software components that were developed concurrently, such as UCSF, UCSF Tk, Report Writer, Web Graphics Library, and Data Manager. A demo version was also available for free. AutoCAD continued to be developed and improved for the next 20 years, and has gone through several major revisions.
From AutoCAD 2000, later referred to as AutoCAD R12, onward, the development of AutoCAD shifted from a product by the engineering department of the University of Utah to the software business Autodesk. The VB script and VB Add-Ons were removed. UCSF was no longer bundled with AutoCAD.

1. Click on the “Insert” menu in the bottom left corner of the screen
2. Click on the “Activate” tab and select the “Autocad Preferences” item
3. Click on “Unlock” button
4. Click on the “Create” tab and select “Save…”
5. Select the “.cpp” file from the file path and then click the “OK” button.
If the app asks you to agree to the license agreement, please click the “Yes” button and then proceed to step 6.
6. Now open the “Activate.cpp” file from the file path and enter the unlock key in the blank space provided and then click the “OK” button.
A new Autocad instance will be started automatically.
You can also have the files from the zip package ready in a different directory by just changing the location of the activation file in the registry (if present).
5. Install and use the printer driver for the scanner
Insert the ribbon cable, power cord and the printer tray of the scanner into the scanner. (see the “Using the scanner” guide, Section 6)
Now, remove the power switch cover and install the scanner in the center of the power switch panel and then press the power button on the power switch (see the “Using the scanner” guide, Section 3) to turn on the scanner.
6. Use the Autocad programs to verify the printer and scanner functions
Now, check the following:
a. The scanner should work
b. The printer should work
If the printer works then you are done. If the scanner does not work, you should try one of the following:
1. Reset the scanner and press the power button again
2. Use the built-in software to verify the printer and scanner functions. If the scanner does not work, it is possible that your scanner has a key/lock on it. Refer to the “Using the scanner” guide.
3. Remove the black sticker on the right side of the scanner’s bezel cover. Remove the sticker and install the new software.
4. Install the scanner software on another computer. In this case, you will need to transfer the scanner-file (.cdr) file to the new computer. Refer to the “Using the scanner” guide.
5. Clean the scanner with
The new Markup Import function is now easier to use and offers more flexibility. Now, you can not only import from PDFs, but also from Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Excel, and OpenDocument. This lets you import, for example, feedback from a customer’s letter and use the changes in your drawings without having to create a whole new drawing. The Import feature is always available, so you can start working with your project as soon as you import the feedback and work with your drawings while you incorporate changes in your models.
Also, the Markup Assist command has been improved and now lets you quickly import feedback into the active drawing and make edits on the fly. You can send your updates to the team, review them on paper, and then close the drawing to retain edits.
Graphics:
Easy-to-use image editing tools.
The Image menu has been completely redesigned, offering new tools for image editing that are easier to use and offer greater functionality. From editing color and brightness to adding text, frames, and shadows, the image-editing tools give you more control over the look of your graphics.
In addition to the new editing tools, the image-editing tools are now also easier to use and offer additional functionality. For example, you can directly add texture and object styles to images using the New Style dialog box, and you can also more easily create images from other source files or images.

You can also view, edit, and modify the color and transparency of any object, including gradients and hatch patterns. Now, you can also convert images into Vector-graphics files.
2D and 3D modeling:
With improved new modeling commands, you’ll be able to cut and join pieces in 2D and 3D models more quickly and accurately.
You can edit points with an added Reference command, view and edit any 2D layers you may have added to a drawing, and add and edit polygonal curves. With the Dynamic Dimension feature, you can now quickly draw and edit 2D dimensions.
You can also create new objects more quickly and easily by modifying a predefined template. With the template feature, you can now choose from a variety of templates and create new objects from scratch.
Plan:
The Plan feature lets you create and edit worksheets from
