Since the RGB color model uses the 24-bit number system, it is most common to use 8-bit numbers for the red, green, and blue channels so that you can represent a color with a value of 255 red, 255 green, and 255 blue.

Converting from RGB to grayscale or the other RGB colorspaces is as easy as using the Mode pull-down menu in the Image Size and Crop window to select Grayscale. It is important to note that, if you convert a color image to grayscale, the result will lose a lot of data, and may suffer from color banding and low-contrast gradients due to aliasing, as explained in Choosing the Right Pixel Depth for the Workflow You’re Using.

1. **Load your image from the Image Viewer or Editor,** using whichever method you prefer.

2. **Set your Histogram to display 64 levels of gray,** choosing Edit→Preferences→Performance (you may have to select the tab and scroll down a little).

3. **Use the Image Size and Crop features to make the image 8-bit,** using either the RGB or Grayscale option.

Organizing JavaScript for re-use on the fly

After developing a personal site a while back for my personal portfolio, I have grown accustomed to using javascript on the fly without knowing what they are called. I just kind of know when I want to do something.
The thing is that I want to try making a site for the band I’m in. What is this practice called, how do people use this?

If you want to do something similar to what you used previously, then you should probably checkout Angular.js. There is also a live CSS
If you want a smaller, leaner, faster approach, checkout React.js – I use it for some of my personal projects to great effect.

The normal way to do this is by using a framework.
Specifically something like Backbone.js
This framework makes it easy to build dynamic pages that work with Ajax.
The easiest way to get started with back bone is to create a simple template like this:
var dashboard = Backbone.Layout.extend({
template: “dashboard”,
initialize: function() {
render: function() {
var dashboard = _.template(this.template);

I use this stuff to generate a bunch of stuff on the fly and then do something like this to make sure it gets hooked up with the appropriate method:
//attach to events:
var dashboard = new Backbone.Layout();
dashboard.on(‘swapCss’, myFunction);

//attach to ajax requests:
var dashboard = new Backbone.Layout();
dashboard.on(‘search’, myAjaxFunction);

//attach to other events
var dashboard = new Backbone.Layout();
dashboard.on(‘updateMyList’, myAjaxFunction);
