Replace the last character of the last word in a string in R

I have a large dataset. I’m dealing with a field that has names and several fields which has the same name but different values. I would like to replace the last character of the last word in the names with a specific value. I’m trying to find a simple way to do this that doesn’t require any scripting. My data is structured as follows:
NAMES = c(“AB 3/11/2017”, “ABA 20/02/2017”, “ABA 31/01/2017”, “AB 8/12/2017”, “ABA 9/05/2016”, “ABA 10/06/2016”, “ABA 30/01/2017”, “ABA 5/07/2016”, “ABA 2/08/2017”, “ABA 1/06/2017”)

I’m trying to replace the last digit of the last number with 0
Desired output:
NAMES = c(“AB 3/11/2017”, “ABA 20/02/2017”, “ABA 31/01/2017”, “AB 20/08/2017”, “ABA 09/05/2016”, “ABA 10/06/2016”, “ABA 30/01/2017”, “ABA 05/07/2016”, “ABA 02/08/2017”, “ABA 01/06/2017”)

A:

We can use str_replace_last from stringr to replace each character of the last word (where the word is last word contains the last character) with the specified value.
library(stringr)
NAMES % rlang::str_replace_all(“.*\\d+$”,”0″)

# [1] “AB 3/11/2017” “ABA 20/02/2017” “A
