Getting to know the built-in tools
Photoshop comes with an assortment of tools, and some of the tools work better for some tasks than others. (This is true of all programs and not just Photoshop, but Photoshop is the one we use regularly and typically the one you see when we explain the processes we use.)
Here are the basic tools found in the main panel and their uses. These tools are discussed in depth in the sections that follow:
* **Eraser** : This tool is used to remove objects or reduce the size of an image. You can use it to remove extra skin in a portrait, for example, or reduce the size of an area of an image, such as a word balloon from an advertisement.
* **Eyedropper** : This tool enables you to sample color from an image and then copy the color to the selected area.
* **Fill** : This tool is used to fill an image with a solid color. In addition to actually filling the image with a solid color, you can also use this tool to create a color gradient or radial gradient.
* **Freeform Rectangle** : This tool is used to create a rectangle.
* **Global Adjustment** : This tool allows you to change the characteristics of an entire image, such as brightness, contrast, and saturation, all at once.
* ** Gradient** : This tool enables you to create a gradient, which is a color-based effect that smoothly transitions between two colors (see Chapter 14).
* ** Healing Brush** : This tool is used to repair images, erase and

Photoshop uses three file formats. They are:
Photoshop (PSD) This file is a digital image file. It can be a layered file. It can have transparency and it supports all color modes. By default, Photoshop stores files in their native PSD format (bits, layers). The size of the files depends on the details of the image. A typical PSD file would be about 50 MB.

In Photoshop, they are formatted in PSD files, stored in RAW files and converted in TIFF or JPEG files. They are used to store data from digital cameras, such as image RAW
This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Small molecule inhibitors are considered promising anti-TB drugs. The major target of anti-TB drugs is Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which has a double lipid envelope, the outermost part being comprised of either lipoarabinomannan (LAM) or lipomannan (LM). LAM is abundant in M. tuberculosis clinical strains and is a polyglutamylated homopolymer of [unreadable]-1,6-linked galactose-capping [unreadable]-1,2-[unreadable]-1,2-linked mannose, and N-formylation. LAM biosynthesis also requires the enzyme LAM synthase. LM is produced by M. tuberculosis clinical isolates with variable length poly-LM chains covalently bound to the core trehalose. The structure of the glycosyltransferase domains of LM and LAM synthase were solved in 2003 by the PI’s laboratory. The structures have been used to illuminate the biochemical mechanisms of donor and acceptor substrate recognition and catalytic hydrolysis, as well as to suggest how the enzymes cooperate for the biosynthesis of LAM and LM. In this study, we are addressing the following question: What are the requirements for inhibition of biosynthesis of LAM and LM in M. tuberculosis?SWAC Players of the Week Award

Just to let you know, I posted this picture just under a year ago and was hoping to return to it with an update, but no such luck. This is my brother, Paul, standing with me in 1993 with his daughter on his shoulders. We were taking a shot of Paul and her from the stairs of the International Space Station in July of that year. The ISS was launched in 1998 and finished its mission of being the first in orbit around the Earth in Expedition 1 in 2000.
You might notice some items of interest that are not space related. The top card is a mail-in art contest that I participated in once with a second card that I sent to myself in 1990. Other items in the picture include the Democratic National Convention in Houston in 1992, my brother in 1994 (two years before he died), various space artifacts from the ISS, and the “first-ever in-orbit wedding.” (My sister, Lisa, and her husband, Tim, had their wedding on the ISS in August 2001!)
